INSURANCE COVERAGE

We are covered by most insurance companies in Vermont, either as specialists or primary care physicians*.  We also accept insurance for acupuncture services when covered**.  Our policy is to collect for services at time of service for all patients who have not met their deductible for the year.  It is your responsibility to know if you have an unmet deductible.  We proudly accept the insurance plans below, with some caveats:

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont, Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield, and CBA Blue If you have non-VT based BCBS you will need to confirm coverage. Most out of state BCBS plans cover fully, but some do not. It is our policy to collect at time of service for all out of state BCBS plan until we can confirm coverage.

Cigna Full coverage for policies that originate in state

Vermont Medicaid/Green Mountain Care Always full coverage

MVP Healthcare Full coverage for policies that originate in state

Aetna We now expect Aetna to cover Naturopathic services as in-network, however this has been an evolving process with them and we still can not guarantee coverage. We are working to be come officially in-network with Aetna. It is our policy to collect at time of service for all out of state Aetna plans until we can confirm coverage.

Anthem BCBS Sometimes provides Naturopathic coverage. It is our policy to collect at time of service for all out of state Anthem BCBS plans until we can confirm coverage.

United Sometimes provides Naturopathic coverage. It is our policy to collect at time of service for all out of state United plans until we can confirm coverage.

Medicare/Tricare Unfortunately, Medicare is a federal program and does need to abide by the Vermont statue requiring coverage for Naturopathic physicians.  As such, we can not accept Medicare (or, more accurately, Medicare does not accept us).  However, many of our patients have secondary polices through other insurance providers, such as BCBS, that do cover our services when Medicare does not.  

Others If you have a plan not mentioned above, we are very happy to bill your insurance. We will need to collect at time of service until we have confirmation of coverage.

*Laboratory Medicine Naturopathic Medicine, and especially Functional approaches to health care, often rely heavily on modern laboratory testing and methods. Your insurance may or may not cover testing that your physician recommends. When possible, your physician will discuss which tests are expected to be covered and which are not, and discuss expected charges when known. However, due to deductibles and the particulars of various insurance plans, we can not always know which tests will or will not be paid for by your insurance company. Even when a test is ‘covered’ it may still be applied to your deductible, resulting in a bill. Furthermore, insurance carriers frequently change their coverage policies and, while we try to stay current, it is not always possible to do so. It is the responsibility of the patient to know their insurance coverage and to know if charges are expected when going for laboratory services.

**Acupuncture Some BCBS, Cigna and MVP plans also cover acupuncture services, and for those plans we will bill insurance. If you have an unmet deductible, we will collect in full at time of service, and then bill. We can try to help, but it is your responsibility to know if you have acupuncture coverage or not. Even with coverage, some plans only cover for specific conditions.
